 Abstract:

The election for the 13th-term President and Vice-President of the Republic of China will be held on January 14, 2012 in Taiwan. It will be the fifth direct election for the President of Taiwan. For the first time, this election will be coupled with the single-round elections to the Legislative Yuan, which will return 113 lawmakers, including 73 elected in a constituency and 34 elected by proportional vote. This seminar will present an analysis of the election, in particular of the campaign themes and election results, their possible impact on cross-strait relations and political talks across the Taiwan Strait, and their international repercussions.
