Introduction

China Perspectives was launched in 1995 by Michel Bonnin (Chief Editor from 1995 to 1998), Jean-Philippe Béja and Raphaël Jacquet. It is the sister publication of Perspectives chinoises, French-language academic journal created in 1992. Interdisciplinary in orientation, China Perspectives provides in-depth analyses of current changes and perspectives in the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.

China Perspectives is an academic journal based on anonymous peer review. Its editorial board is made up of scholars from renowned international institutions. Contributions typically present first-hand research on developments in the field, while contextualizing it within the larger intellectual trends that shape the understanding of China today.

A serious yet readable journal, China Perspectives has already proven essential for sinologists and Asia analysts, but its wide-ranging perspectives and highly informative articles will be of interest to anyone keen on furthering their knowledge about Greater China.

As of 2007, the journal has been entirely redesigned to contain the following sections:

Special feature
- Comprehensive analysis of a prominent theme or aspect of recent developments in greater China;
- A combination of different approaches that relies on the latest academic studies as well as featuring interviews with experts.

Articles
Original first-hand research articles focusing on other topics related to contemporary China.

Current affairs
- China Analysis section created jointly with the Asia Centre (Paris), and which features two articles from its electronic journal;
- Critical synthesis of recent articles published by the Chinese press or Chinese journals in the field of social and political science.

Review essays
- Critical articles on the latest significant publications on contemporary China.

Book reviews
- Relatively brief accounts of recent books on Greater China.
