His PhD dissertation, which focused on class actions of the Minamata disease and air pollution in Kawasaki-Yokohama, received the Shibusawa-Claudel Prize. The publication of this thesis in 2006 was welcomed with compliments from Le Monde and famous scientific journals like Annales Histoire Sciences Sociales, Sociologie du Travail, Le Mouvement Social. His research on Japanese nuclear plant workers was conducted in 2002, as he was a post-doc grantee from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Sciences, at the University of Hitotsubashi (Tokyo). The same year, he was appointed as Assistant Professor at the University of Bordeaux, then Associate Professor at the University of Paris Diderot in 2004, Department of East Asian Studies, his teaching focusing mainly on the Sociology of Contemporary Japan. In 2007-2009, he was visiting scholar at CEFC Taipei, the Taiwan Office of the French Centre for Research on Contemporary China (main office in Hong Kong). Since 2009, Paul Jobin is Director of CEFC Taipei, organizing various seminars and international conferences in social sciences focusing on the socio-politics of contemporary China and Taiwan, including STS issues. His current fieldwork in Taiwan focuses on two important class actions: a dioxin pollution in the south of the island, and a case of solvent contamination by organic solvents from the American TV set makers RCA.
