Researchers

Positions as a researcher financed by the French Foreign Office are advertised on the website of the Foreign Office (http://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/emplois/cooperation). Application forms have to be sent in the first two months of each year to the DGCID and the Director of the CEFC. Applicants are then interviwed in May in Paris by the Scientific Board. Successful applicants are eligible for two years and can renew their contracts.

 

Scholarships and Grants for PhD Candidates and Post-Doctoral Fellowships

 

 

The CEFC hosts different types of PhD candidates

  1. Some of them have been awarded the CEFC's PhD Scholarship, which the CEFC grants every year. It is a one-year, renewable scholarship. After these two years, the candidate can ask for the Foreign Office's BCRD scholarship.

  2. Fieldwork Scholarships: Every year, in Spring, the CEFC awards fieldwork scholarships. Their amount will vary from 500 to 1500 euros according to applications and projects. Candidates can apply for two types of projects. A fieldwork mission in Mainland China , Hong Kong or Taiwan or a Research visit to the University Service Centre, Chinese University of Hong Kong. In return, awardees will have to present a report on their fieldwork to the members of the CEFC team. They will also have to submit an article to be published in the CEFC’s journals. Candidates will be selected upon application. Applications shall contain, a detailed CV, a research outline as well as an article proposal, the estimated budget of the mission, a recommendation letter from the candidate’s Ph.D. supervisor.

  3. The CEFC also hosts PhD candidates with other sources of funding. [See for example the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange http://www.cckf.org/e-dornation.htm].

  4. Lee Hysan Visiting Scholar Scheme
    The Lee Hysan Visiting Scholar Scheme provides grants to mainland and overseas scholars to visit the Universities Service Center (Chinese University of Hong Kong) for the purpose of conducting research. The grants subsidizes the rental for on-campus accommodation and provides per diem during the period of stay. Period of visit 1-3 months.
