PhD SCHOLARSHIP

CEFC PhD SCHOLARSHIP FROM SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2008

At the end of April 2008, the Scientific Board of ‘Pole Asie’ research institutes attached to the French Foreign Ministry will award a one year, renewable PhD scholarship. The scholarship comprises a monthly stipend of 1220 Euros, round-trip air travel from Europe to Hong Kong (when applicable), transportation of 50 kgs of luggage and repatriation insurance in case of illness.

Applicants must be citizens of a member State of the European Union, must possess a Master’s degree in Social Sciences and must be PhD candidates in a French university. Candidates will be under the obligation to reside in either Hong Kong, Taiwan or mainland China. Their research project must be relevant to the scientific mission of the CEFC, which is to study the political, economic, social and cultural developments in the contemporary Chinese world.

The application shall contain:

  • a research project
  • a detailed CV
  • a cover letter
  • three recommendation letters from recognized scholars in the field

The selection will be based upon the following criteria which shall be outlined very clearly in the research project :
  • Aims of the research
  • Methodology, Sources, Fieldwork
  • Provisional Calendar
  • Scientific collaboration with both Chinese and European Insitutions
  • Expected Results (publications projects…)

Application forms can be obtained either from the CEFC office in Hong Kong or from the Foreign Ministry in Paris.

Applicants must fill in two application forms:

  • One of the application forms should be sent by email and the subject of the email should be ‘BAR 2008’. Original copies of the three cover letters must be sent by mail.
  • The other application form should be sent to Mme Brigitte Myard, Division des Sciences Sociales et de l’Archeologie, 244, boulevard Saint-Germain – 75303 PARIS 07 SP.

Applications should be received before March 3rd, 2008
