Le voyage du Made in China

Un soutien-gorge fabriqué dans une usine du sud de la Chine traverse le détroit et arrive à Taiwan. Là, il erre sur des circuits physiques et numériques avant de retourner à son lieu de départ. Cette histoire raconte la vie sociale d’un soutien-gorge à travers celle de ses productrices : des jeunes femmes qui quittent la campagne pour travailler dans les villes, qui migrent à Taiwan par le biais d’un mariage et qui fi nissent par revenir en Chine après le divorce, en suivant leurs aspirations à l’indépendance et à la modernité.
Entre parcours de migration et de travail, marginalisation économique, ambitions, émotions et capacité d’action, la bande dessinée s’intéresse à l’usage de la plateforme numérique dans les pratiques de solidarité et d’entrepreneuriat. En suivant à la fois les femmes et les objets que celles-ci commercialisent, elle examine la morphologie complexe des mobilités contemporaines et les géographies migratoires, commerciales et numériques de l’interconnexion entre la Chine et Taiwan.

Women, Bras and Chicken Feet
A Journey through “Made in China”

A bra manufactured in a factory in southern China crosses the strait and arrives in Taiwan. There, it circulates through physical and digital networks before returning to its place of origin. This story traces the social life of a bra through the lives of its producers: young women who leave the countryside to work in cities, migrate to Taiwan through marriage, and eventually return to China after divorce, following their aspirations for independence and modernity.
At the intersection of migration and labour trajectories, economic marginalisation, ambitions, emotions and agency, the graphic novel explores the use of digital platforms in practices of solidarity and entrepreneurship. By following both the women and the objects they trade, it examines the complex morphology of contemporary mobility and the migratory, commercial and digital geographies shaping interconnections between China and Taiwan.
