The Humanities and Social Science Meet AI: A Dialogue Series on AI and the Future of Knowledge

AI is transforming our lives and the ways we produce knowledge — the humanities and social science are no exception. AI can now perform tasks once carried out by students, teachers, researchers, and artists. Yet in this very process, the fundamental practices of learning, teaching, researching, and creating risk losing some of their meaning. But aren’t these practices part of what makes us human and helps shape our societies?

When AI meets the humanities and social science, the questions it raises take on particular significance. AI is already reshaping the practices of scholars in these fields. At the same time, scholars in the humanities and social science have a particular role to play in questioning these technologies and the world they are transforming.

Event 1: Where Do We Stand with AI in the Humanities and Social Science?
A Roundtable on Experiences and Practices

This roundtable invites a moment of collective reflection on AI, grounded in the diverse experiences of its participants. To varying degrees, we have all already encountered AI in our teaching, research, and creative practices, and these encounters raise questions that are worth sharing.

A small group of faculty members from the department will begin the roundtable by sharing their experiences, questions, concerns, and experiments with AI. The conversation will then open to the audience, inviting students and colleagues from across the university to join the exchange and contribute their own perspectives.
