– China, Hong Kong or Taiwan PhD Scholarship 2024 –

In 2024, the French Center for Research on Contemporary China (CEFC) will award scholarships to doctoral students, for field research or thesis writing in Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan.

The CEFC will be able to finance up to 12 months’ grant, to be divided between the various projects selected. The grant amount is €1,200 per month, plus a return plane ticket (up to a maximum of €1,000).

The assignment may begin on or after 1 May 2024. At the end of their assignment, during which they will be associated with the CEFC, the selected applicants will be required to present their activities at the CEFC.

Eligibility

  • Doctoral students who are nationals of a member state of the European Union (EU) or doctoral students from outside the EU enrolled in doctoral training at a French university in a field of social sciences and humanities.
  • Obligation to reside in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan for the duration of their attachment to the CEFC.
  • Submit a research project that fits into the CEFC’s scientific mission, which consists of studying the political, economic, social and cultural changes in the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

In return for this funding, the beneficiaries of this aid undertake:

  • To submit a written report on their work to the CEFC, intended in particular for the Centre’s annual activity report.
  • To present their research activities to the CEFC at the end of the field mission.

Application Requirement

The application should include:

  • A research project (5 pages maximum, bibliography not included, Times New Roman font 12, line spacing 1.5)
  • A detailed CV
  • A cover letter
  • A budget (including any co-financing, if any)

The selection will be based on the following criteria, which must appear clearly in the research project:

  • Research objectives
  • Methodology/Sources/Fieldwork
  • Provisional Calendar
  • Writing skills in French or English

Applicants shall obtain their visa on their own, the CEFC and the Taipei office cannot be responsible for applicants’ visa. The impossibility of going to the fieldwork will result in the cancellation of the scholarship.
